Healing with Music - Addiction, Burnout & Grief

I used music to help me through my hardest days with addiction, burnout and grief.

Because my healing has been so profound it lead me to develop and trademark a system of tools that uses music as a basis for transformation. I call it Intuitive Music Programming (TM)

It all began when I reflected on my childhood, and particularly my teenage years when I noticed that in heartbreak I would listen to very specific types of music. Test this.

Ask anybody “what was the song of your first heartbreak?” : Everybody will remember it.

It's because the music of the time when you were broken-hearted accompanied you in the physical emotional experience you were going through.

Music understood exactly what you were feeling without you needing to explain it.

Music could accompany you in how you were feeling in your heartbreak

Music did this without trying to save you, rescue or advise you.

Music could just be with you.

Music helps you regulate your emotions.

It helps you move through that emotion so you don't have to avoid it.

I developed intuitive music programming through this experience.

I realised that when we intentionally listen to music, it helps us connect with a deeper knowing, wisdom and intuition.

With conscious awareness, we can leverage on this deep connection to reprogram unhealthy patterns of thinking and behaviour and realign the trajectory of our lives.

Listening to music helps to deepen your journaling exercises because when you journal you’re in your conscious / thinking mind and music helps you gain access to the unconscious and subconscious layers of our minds.

With music you drop into your body. You drop into the felt experience. It's no longer a narrative, but a reality because you are in your body.

Now not only can you reprogram belief systems & change the narrative in your mind, but you can also shift the way you feel about the experience.

With music you have the ability to shift the way you feel about the narrative in your body.

There is a possibility for thoughts to become a reality.

It doesn't just live in your imagination.

Your body listens to everything your mind thinks.

However, your experiences are locked within the cellular intelligence of your body.

How many times have you told yourself you have to do something different because cognitively, logically you understand it makes sense to change your behaviour.

But, You just simply can't.

If anything it creates more frustration, we feel like we fail.

We don't get to benefit from the long lasting effects of changing a pattern.

It's very short term, because we're trying to lead from our minds, but our body's telling us something different.

Through the work of Bessel Vander Kolk, we know that the “Body Keeps the Score” (referring to his book).

We know this from trauma. We know this from PTSD, that even though we can change our minds about something, the body can be trapped like in a time capsule of an experience of the past.

They're stuck in a moment in the past.

By dropping back into the body, using music to tap into that felt sense, we can access the experiential memory of the body in order to shift it, rewrite it, reframe it.

We're literally creating a new reality because the reality lives in what we're experiencing. '

It lives in how we feel in our bodies, beyond what the mind thinks.

I've had a client overcome their claustrophobia because they were able to access where the memory lived in a moment in the past and reframe how it felt in her body using music.

Music changes the way we feel. It changes our reality.

We can shift our state. Tony Robbins talks about shifting your state.

How intuitive music programming works is on this basis :

  1. Start to notice when you're feeling down & your body feels low energy, it doesn't matter how much you tell yourself to feel better with positive thinking, you won’t.

  2. Instead intentionally shift the energetic state of your body.

Start with upbeat music. For some people this works as it shifts the energetic state of their body. For others, it may require you to move through the low energy first before you can shift into a higher energy. In which case I suggest listening to music where you feel safe to be in that low energy state.

If you worked with me, I would curate a playlist for you that creates a sacred container where you feel safe to feel sad, safe to cry.

15-30 mins of music for you to feel safe to be despondent and at your lowest most vulnerable.

I would give you prompts and guide you to go deeper and more open into your heart space.

Rather than avoid any discomfort we would lean into it with love.

We move through the emotion like a wave and we surf past it so that we can complete the cycle of that experience before we are able to shift it.

Music is heavily undervalued as a resource for emotional regulation and healing. I’d love for you to join me and my community as we explore the power of music when listened to with purpose.

The community is still open and free.

Until next time, stay fearlessly curious my friend.
